Vida Activa (Active Life) Initiative

Under the Vida Activa Initiative, which aims to qualify around 200 unemployed people for jobs in technical areas in Oeiras, trainees enrolled on the “Electronics and Automation Technician” course visited ISQ’s automation and robotics laboratory. The objective of the visit was to show trainees how automation and robotics are applied as a large-scale manufacturing process and the performance of highly precise tasks, and to learn about the type of programming at this level and the advantages and limitations of using robots. The trainees were also shown how each robot can be used in certain specific situations. In this laboratory’s case, the robots are used for high precision welding. Dams and Thermal Power Plant The trainees and those from the Technical Installer and Gas and Electricity Network Welder courses also conducted study visits to the Alqueva Dam, Castelo de Bode Dam and Pego Power Plant. These visits were aimed at introducing trainees to the operation of a hydroelectric plant, allowing them to apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom. The advantage of these visits is to promote contact with the effective application of the concepts that they study in the classroom. ISQ favours these types of practical activities in its training actions and deems them to be an essential dynamic in the training context, where our laboratories are indeed of great value. .
