Governance Structure
ISQ is a private and independent association, of public utility, created in 1965 with the aim of supporting industry through knowledge and technology transfer in the welding area.
As it is an association, ISQ has no share capital. Its associates (partners) may be national or foreign natural or legal persons (in different categories, as stipulated by the Articles of Association).
ISQ’s corporate governance structure comprises the General Assembly, the General and Supervisory Board, the Board of Directors and the Audit Committee.
The General Meeting is made up of several members and is the entity that elects the members of the Board, the General and Supervisory Board (GSB) and the Audit Committee. The General and Supervisory Board is made up of between nine and thirteen members, of whom one is elected as Chairman.

Pedro Matias
President
Pedro Matias, became chair of the Board of Directors of ISQ in March 2017.
Holder of a degree in Management and a Masters in Economics and Management of Science, Technology and Innovation, he has previously held positions as Vice-Chair of IAPMEI, Vice-Chair of the Lisbon Technological Centre and Chair of several investment funds and companies. He has also been a Director of APCER, member of the management of Startup Lisboa and has held several Portuguese government positions and served as an advisor to the Portuguese Government.
He has also been associated with various international structures such as the OECD and as an Advisor to the European Commissioner for Research on the European Research Advisory Board. He is also on the Board of Directors of the IIW – International Welding Institute and the Board of Directors of the TIC Council – Testing Inspection & Certification Council.
João Safara
Board Member
Member of the Board of Directors of ISQ since April 2014.
From May 2011 to March 2014 he sat on the Board of Directors of FundBox- Sociedade Gestora de Fundos de Investimento Mobiliário, where he was Director of Operations since February 2003. Also at FundBox, from November 2005 to March 2014 he was the Director and Member of the Executive Committee.
His professional career also includes time spent at Banco Finantia, as accounts manager, at Deco Proteste and at Caixagest
José Figueira
Board Member
Member of the Board of Directors of ISQ since March 2016.
In 2014 he took over as Director of Engineering Industrial Services at ISQ, having worked for ISQ International in the North African and US markets from 2005 to 2014.
His professional experience also includes time spent at Rinave, where he was Director of Industry from 1991 to 2005, and at the European Community Technical Institute, from 1989 to 1991, as a Laser Materials Processing Researcher and Technician.
