Goals: The EETur project – Energy Efficiency in Tourism Enterprises of the Algarve Region for greater Competitiveness and Sustainability of the Sector, has as strategic objective to promote the transfer of scientific and technological knowledge in the area of Energy Efficiency (EE) and Renewable Energies (ER) to tourism enterprises, sensitizing the sector to the best existing methodologies, technologies and business models, with a view to promoting greater competitiveness and sustainability of tourism in the Algarve. These technologies and methodologies are innovative solutions, resulting from previous activities of ISQ R&D projects, enabling effective gains in the eco-efficiency of tourism enterprises and consequent reduction of energy costs and carbon footprint. In parallel to these advantages, the project can be replicated to other service sectors at regional level, thus presenting a high potential for dissemination of innovation with positive impacts also generated in these sectors. This project has the following operational objectives:

  • Identify the main problems and challenges in the tourism enterprises sector of the Algarve region in the field of energy efficiency (EE) and implementation of renewable energies (ER), with a view to carrying out an effective transfer of scientific and technological knowledge.
  • Raise awareness and mobilize companies in the sector to the importance of EE and ER as a complementary factor in increasing efficiency and competitiveness, demonstrating the economic impact of integrating innovative technologies and methodologies, as well as new business models.
  • Development of a roadmap that will support companies in the sector in defining the strategies to be developed and implemented, in the areas of EE and RE.
  • Effectively transfer the knowledge resulting from isq's R&D activity in the themes of the project, promoting the involvement and interaction of all stakeholders.
  • Promote, together with companies in the tourism enterprise sector of the Algarve region the adoption of methodologies and technologies that contribute to the increase of sustainability and promotion of a more circular economy.
  • Strengthen the national scientific and technological base and strengthen cooperation between companies and scientific institutions in the field of research, development, use of more efficient technologies and methodologies in the scope of EE and implementation of ER in tourism enterprises in the Algarve region.
  • Contribute to the environmental image and international recognition of the tourism sector in the Algarve region
