Digital tools for educational and training programs for industry

The COVID-19 pandemic has created new challenges for vocational education and training programmes, due to the abrupt need to convert to a distance learning format and the difficulty this has created with regard to ensuring the quality of education and inclusion of trainees. In the very particular case of industry, where necessarily vocational education and training programs have always been based on a format of face-to-face classes, practical training and workshops, it is imperative to change the way online training is practiced. The modernisation and digital transformation of training and education is of utmost importance to industry in Europe. The DITMET project aims to meet this challenge, with the main objective of contributing to quality and inclusive distance learning. The project will strengthen the digital capabilities of vocational education and training programmes in the area of risk prevention in the composite manufacturing industry by taking advantage of simulation technologies and using an interactive gaming framework. The DITMEP project aims in particular at the development of an online training course on risk prevention in the composite manufacturing industry, housed in an e-learning platform, having a structure based on interactive games, and content adaptable to the specific needs of other industrial sectors, as well as the regulation of different countries. OUTCOMES The DITMEP project will create a risk prevention training course in the composite manufacturing industry that could be adapted to other industrial sectors. The course and all the pedagogical tools to be developed under the DITMEP project, namely interactive games and simulation programs, will be housed in an e-learning platform accessible from smartphones. Thus, among the main results of the DITMEP project, the following are:

  • Increasing the digital capacities of students and teachers in the area of risk prevention in the industrial environment, through a combined learning model
  • Development of a professional training program on risk prevention in the composite manufacturing sector. This will be based on interactive games that complement a theoretical curriculum enhanced with augmented reality experiences through an app for individual use on mobile devices
  • A methodology tested in 3 EU countries (Germany, Spain and Portugal) through pilot courses enriched with the contributions of assessment by students and trainers, and
  • A guide for instructors and students on the use of interactive digital learning resources

All these materials will be tested and housed on an e-learning platform. The course, and its contents for the implementation of training actions, will be translated into the languages of the partners involved in the project (Portuguese, Spanish and German). The teaching and training materials will also be replicated in national platforms to ensure the sustainability of the project results after the end of the consortium’s work.
