Portugal will join the Board of Directors of the largest International Ict Association – Testing Inpection and Certification
Today was approved in Paris the merger of the two largest International Associations of the Sector of "Testing, Inspections and Certification" of companies creating a global giant in this sector. Until now there were two entities, the CEOC – International Confederation of Inspection and Certification Organisations and IFIA – International Federation of Inspection Agencies. With the merger approved today by the General Assemblies of both organizations, one of the largest international Associations is created and Portugal will be one of the members of the new Board of Directors. It is recalled that the world market of certification and inspection bodies is a giant market where large companies such as SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek, Dekra, TUV, Eurofins, Applus and others compete for a global service market estimated at more than 200,000 Million Euros. The Portuguese Pedro Matias will represent Portugal in the new International Association. The new Association brings together a large part of these entities and connects with the services of the European Institutions and the European Commission, Business Associations, Consumer Associations and Standars and Accreditation Entities and aims to give a stronger voice to defend the interests of companies in this sector. In Portugal one of the main actors in this sector is ISQ, of which Pedro Matias is the President. According to Pedro Matias "it is increasingly necessary to place Portuguese in key places internationally and where today's decisions have a huge impact on the industry and the economy of tomorrow." With the "digitization of the economy much of the standars and international standards will be changed. It's a revolution that's coming." The ISQ Group has more than 1400 employees worldwide (800 of which in Portugal), is present in about 20 countries, has 16 Accredited Laboratories and provides more than 250 specialized services to more than 1200 partners and customers. The ISQ Group is the largest private technology infrastructure in Portugal and has participated in more than 400 international Research and Development projects. Pedro Matias, was Vice-President of IAPMEI, Administrator of APCER – Portuguese Certification Association and was Advisor to the European Commissioner for Research within the European Research Advisory Board. He is currently President of ISQ.
