ISQ Launches post-graduation in adhesive engineering

Adesivos ISQ will launch in November the Post Graduation in Adhesive Engineering, an innovative technology of bonding materials that may replace welding and riveting in some cases. The engineering of adhesives will be very useful for the aeronautics industry, corticeira, automobile, among others, because it serves to connect composite materials. Students who attend PG will be able to work in various industries that use adhesives because at the end of the course they will be able to define, optimize, coordinate and validate adhesive joints during the phases of design, production and maintenance and also to transmit to the other employees of the Organization the knowledge and skills acquired, thus contributing to increase their confidence and performance in the area of Adhesives. The adhesive is a material that allows the connection between surfaces and resists separation. It can be found in nature or produced synthetically. It is currently present in construction, electronic devices; telecommunications, furniture and wood agglomerations manufacturing; medical devices; surgery (tissue and bone bonding); textile industry; footwear industry, packaging materials (adhesives, adhesive tapes) and also in the aeronautical industry where it is used for example in sandwich panels present in aircraft fuselage and in the automobile industry , where it is being used to replace very demanding welding technologies in materials such as aluminum, in structures such as the chassis of some cars such as the Lotus Evora, morgan supersports and Aston Martin DB9. The advantages relate to the bonding of different materials in terms of composition and expansion coefficients (the flexibility of the adhesive compensates for the difference); obtaining regular contours, avoiding holes (screws, rivets) and marks resulting from welding. It also allows to connect plates efficiently, reducing costs (the projects in which adhesive connections are used tend to be more economical) and allowing the automation of the connection process. In relation to mechanical joints, the adhesives allow a greater damping of vibrations and a more uniform distribution of stresses, which contributes to a greater resistance of the part to fatigue.
