Developing “green skills” for sustainable businesses

Digital Transformation, Sustainability

the wide range of training offers in the area of energy efficiency and energy from renewable sources shows how ISQ has played an active role in achieving ambitious global and European decarbonisation targets and green deal targets.

Training for the green deal

ISQ has been “energy” over the decades and has created green skills throughout Portugal and around the world. It moves through innovation, moves by sustainability, moves by the ability to design references and training programs useful to the country, companies and organizations and citizens and workers.
With the ambitious global and European decarbonisation goals and green deal targets, it is noted that Portuguese companies and organizations still have a long way to go, with skills being an accelerator of innovation towards the future.

ISQ Academy has played an active role in the implementation of the European Directives on the energy performance of buildings, industries, transport and domestic. In this context, it has created a wide national formative offer in matters of energy efficiency and the use of energy from renewable sources in residential, commercial and industrial buildings, contributing to the reduction of pollution and energy dependence of our country.

Real-context learning

The ECOTERMOLAB Training and Laboratory Center, with a “Sustainable North” Sustainability Award, is an energy efficient building. It is, in itself, an initiative to promote a low-carbon economy, energy rationalization, improvement of energy and environmental performance of buildings, the enhancement and use of renewable energies: solar thermal, photovoltaic and wind.

Several factors contribute to enhance learning. This is the case of the demonstrated capacity of the operation of equipment and infrastructure, the use of technology applied to the management of energy demand, energy conservation techniques and the integration of energy-efficient equipment. Thus, it is possible to move from simulated practice to practice in real context, which makes the learning process faster and more enriching, allowing the training of competencies for the most diverse sectors.

In a field of European skills intelligence and benchmarking, with European and global reference partners, we have learned and seriously bet on innovation, know-how and “learning in practice” or “in practice, theory is different”.
ISQ is positioned as the partner of Portuguese companies and state agencies for the training of “green skills” and “greening skills”, which implies a “democratization” of skills at all corporate functional levels and not only in the technical or production areas.

In fact, to take real transformation steps in the “green” transition, it is necessary to have not only technical skills and certifications of environmental technical skills, energy and energy efficiency, but also soft skills, leadership, “fluid” skills, network and network management, innovation, data analysis, among others.
The green transition is only done with a holistic and universal green mindset of skills for all citizens, managers and workers.

New skills, new training

ISQ Academy has created training programs associated with a range of new emerging competencies.

  • Driven by the public initiative “Hot Water Solar for Portugal” (AQSpP), ISQ has created and continues to create formative responses of qualification, upskilling and reskilling, and has trained thousands of technicians, including Thermal Solar Systems Installer Technicians in the national sphere, for the areas of design, inspection, installation and maintenance.
  • In line with European and national strategies to reduce energy consumption and increase the use of energy from renewable sources – to reduce energy dependency, as well as greenhouse gas emissions – initiatives have emerged aimed at HVAC Designers, Qualified Experts, Energy Auditors, Renewable Energy Technicians, TIM (Building and Systems Maintenance Facility Technicians) and Fluorinated Gas Handling Technicians.
  • With regard to the requirements of energy certification of buildings, ISQ Academy has several courses and various certifications, including Qualified Expert, for the following areas: energy efficiency, indoor air quality, tests of reception of systems after the completion of their construction, maintenance and monitoring of the operation of air conditioning systems, periodic inspection of boilers and air conditioning equipment and responsibility for the conduct of the systems.
